This is an empirical formula that has been developed to treat fatty liver. Fatty liver disease is the most common cause of abnormal results in liver function tests and is strongly associated with the ongoing obesity epidemic in Western countries. Fatty change in the liver results from excessive accumulation of lipids within the liver cells. Simple fatty liver is believed to be benign, but if there is also hepatic inflammation it can progress to cirrhosis and can be associated with liver cancer. The main risk factors for fatty liver are obesity, diabetes, high triglyceride levels, or a high-fat diet. In addition, fatty liver may be caused by the regular ingestion of alcohol – as little as 10 oz of alcohol ingested per week.

Patients should be advised to severely limit alcohol consumption and to lose weight in order to derive the maximum benefits from taking this formula.
